Pelsoi Refuses to Let More Capitol Police Speak at Hearing

( – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) recently launched a select committee to probe the January 6th storming of the US Capitol. Pelosi handpicked Democrats and anti-Trump Republicans to conduct the investigation and proceedings. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) withdrew all of his picks after Pelosi rejected his selection of Jim Banks (R-IN) and Jim Jordan (R-OH).

On July 28, Banks posted a disturbing Twitter thread accusing Pelosi of restricting potential witnesses during committee hearings to “push her partisan narrative.” As Banks explained, he called for the select committee to hear from the Capitol Police Union Chairman Gus Papathanasiou.

According to Banks, there’s a very good reason Pelosi and her Democrats don’t want to hear from Papathanasiou. He blames the lack of adequate security at the Capitol Complex on January 6 on the “disastrous collapse of leadership” demonstrated by Speaker Pelosi in the weeks and months leading up to the incident.

As proof, Banks posted a two-page press release from Papathanasiou discussing his contentions. Papathanasiou explained that leadership refusal to address the expressed concerns of US Capitol police officers created predictable vulnerabilities.

Papathanasiou noted the July 27 testimony of four DC police officers was a good start for the select committee probe. However, it left many issues hanging the additional testimony could address.

Pelosi maintains the purpose of the select committee is to fairly investigate the circumstances surrounding the January 6 incident — to go where the evidence takes the committee. It appears it might be going in a direction that could paint her actions in a negative light. Can she actually lead a non-partisan probe or will her personal and political agenda get in the way? Asking for a concerned nation.
