The graphic display, which Iranian state media originally posted and M. Hanif Jazayeri translated, states the country’s nuclear program has the ability to quickly transform from its current “peaceful” disposition into a hub for creating weapons of mass destruction. Also mentioned is a “secret” underground base in Fordow, which Iran claimed was a “guarantor” of the nation’s nuclear force.

The narrator states that one of the West’s biggest concerns is Iran’s intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), which are compatible with atomic warheads big enough to decimate New York. The recording explained Iran would be ready to counter any attack by what it called the “Zionist regime.” Radio Free Europe indicated the country has the necessary equipment and supplies to build an atomic bomb but had no intention to move forward unless provoked.

Still, the assertion Iran could reduce New York to rubble has people on edge — rightfully so, given that the anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on US soil is only a month away. As of now, there doesn’t seem to be any risk as Iran does appear reluctant to create such deadly weapons. However, should foreign officials determine the move necessary, it could be disastrous for New York, which is in striking distance of the nation’s ICBMs.
