Biden Curbs Congress With The Biggest Restriction Thus Far
(UnitedReader.com) – President Biden is fulfilling his promise to reduce cancer rates in the US. The White House has already proposed banning menthol cigarettes and all flavored cigars. Now, Biden is looking at possibly reducing the amount of nicotine in cigarettes, which comes with both pros and cons.

The president’s plan, while it would take years to implement, will likely experience strong pushback from the tobacco industry. Biden hopes to reduce the amount of nicotine in cigarettes to a non-addictive level, essentially removing the chemical altogether. By doing so the administration hopes to reduce the number of people smoking cigarettes, which in turn would lower the number of Americans developing cancer, achieving the president’s goal of decreasing the cancer rate in the US.
The New York Post mentioned that nicotine doesn’t cause cancer, but it does cause people to become addicted to cigarettes, leading to long-standing habits. Smoking is America’s leading cause of preventable death.
The tobacco industry claims the reduction could put hundreds of thousands of employees out of work. There’s almost a guarantee the industry would sue the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over the implementation of such a plan. Will the government be able to hold out against the onslaught of lawsuits and backlash from tobacco companies? Will Biden’s proposal actually save lives?
