Back in May, an unknown source leaked the draft opinion of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, which, if accepted, would overturn Roe v. Wade. The leak led to thousands of people protesting and has pro-life and -choice activists in suspense. Many believe the high court is poised to overturn the landmark decision.
The justices presented rulings on three cases on June 6, but they didn’t offer one on the ongoing Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which many observers believe could lead to the justices overturning Roe v. Wade. Without the decision, those concerned about the outcome will have to wait at least another week before learning the fate of abortion in the country. It’s important to note that overturning Roe v. Wade wouldn’t ban abortion; it would just allow the states to govern the issue themselves.
Fox News reported there’s around a month left until the court goes on its summer recess. Many people expect the Supreme Court to issue a decision as early as late June, but people may need to wait until early July to hear the court’s decision. As the court continues to work on the Dobbs case, which originates from a Mississippi law outlawing abortion after 15 weeks, an investigation into who leaked the draft opinion is ongoing.
