Along with the heavy rainfall and hailstorms, tornadoes ripped through Texas and Louisiana, tearing through residential areas and leaving thousands of residents without power. New Orleans and multiple other areas reported several injuries in the aftermath of this tragic event.

The tornado that swept through St. Bernard Parish, 9th Ward, and Arabi was part of the much larger system that ravaged Texas on the same day. Authorities have reported extensive damage in New Orleans and other areas, and they’ve confirmed it has killed at least one person. The storm system that swept across the southern states killed at least one other person in Texas.
Reports of residents trapped in St. Bernard Parish prompted authorities to send search and rescue teams. According to a tweet from the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, there were more than 100 people working to make sure no one was trapped in any of the debris.

The twister devastated houses and communities, reducing some areas to nothing more than toothpicks and rubble. Weather.com reported that crews are combing through the wreckage of what’s believed to be an EF3-level tornado.
