(UnitedReader.com) – An incident on Twitter is making people question how much is too much when it comes to being woke. The situation involved the use of pronouns, a leftist medical student, and a concerning incident with a patient. Surprisingly, after the incident made news headlines, most of the people involved either deleted their Twitter accounts or made them private.

According to Fox News, Shirlene Obuobi MD posted a tweet on March 27, talking about how some patients have criticized her for having her pronouns listed on her badge. She said she has them there to put her transgender patients at ease.
Kychelle Del Rosario, a fourth-year medical student, responded to the tweet, admitting that she mistreated a patient who mocked her for wearing her pronouns on her ID. She was doing a blood draw and purposely missed the vein, requiring a second stick.

While her actions didn’t result in issues for the patient, they were against the oath doctors take to not inflict harm and to adhere to the profession’s ethics. Furthermore, it is disturbing that a medical provider would physically attack a patient based on something that didn’t agree with their personal beliefs.
Wake Forest School of Medicine, which Del Rosario attends, responded on Twitter. The school noted this incident is not a reflection of how the school treats patients, and they are “taking measures to address this with the student.”
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. This student’s tweet does not reflect how Wake Forest University School of Medicine treats patients and provides patient care. We are taking measures to address this with the student.

How should the school handle Ms. Del Rosario? Was the student justified in her actions because the patient mocked her beliefs, or is violence never the answer?
