(UnitedReader.com) – Mark Meadows has recently found himself in the sights of the House January 6 Committee as they investigate the Capitol riot incident. The committee has issued two subpoenas against Meadows attempting to gain knowledge of the events on that day. Now, the former Trump White House Chief of Staff is fighting back.
Court records indicate Meadows called the committee’s subpoenas burdensome and overly comprehensive. In a lawsuit he filed against the Jan. 6 Committee and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the former Chief of Staff is looking to get out from under the subpoenas.

On December 7, Meadows asserted he was no longer interested in cooperating with the committee, citing that they put him in an indefensible position by asking him to answer questions that former President Trump believes Executive Privilege protects.
The Trump ally also claimed that the committee lacked lawful power to subpoena him and third-party communications companies to provide information. Members of the committee, including Representative Bennie Thompson (D-MS), Committee Chairman and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), mocked the lawsuit. The two declared the committee would meet soon to hold Meadows in contempt of Congress. The lawmakers also asserted that the lawsuit from Meadows wouldn’t delay the committee’s investigation.
