(UnitedReader.com) – Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) rarely shares her opponents’ ideologies. However, with the ongoing Afghanistan crisis, she’s once again aligning with them on one important bipartisan issue. Here’s what the House Speaker had to say to ‘Big Tech’ — and the Taliban’s rise to power.
On the morning of September 8, Pelosi went after social media companies such as Twitter and Facebook in a major way. The Speaker harshly criticized them for continuing to allow Taliban forces to post content on their platforms.
A reporter asked Pelosi about the situation in Afghanistan, mentioning videos posted on Twitter and Facebook that showcase the Taliban beating women and girls.
“I would hope that they [social media companies] would react in a responsible way.”@SpeakerPelosi criticized #SocialMedia giants like #Twitter and #Facebook for allowing content from the #Taliban terrorist organization on their platforms. https://t.co/1pU0qDJAIP

Pelosi clarified that she is, in fact, deeply concerned about offensive content in general — not just that which originates in Afghanistan.
This situation isn’t the first time for Pelosi to go after Big Tech. During Trump’s presidency, she regularly attacked social media platforms for failing to halt the spread of disinformation.
The House Speaker describes social media as a double-edged sword. While she feels it’s a great platform for communicating with friends, family and loved ones, she says it also allows extremists to organize and plan events.
Doug Lamborn (R-CO) is also critical of Twitter and Facebook over their joint decision to ban former President Donald J Trump. He, too, points out the contradiction in allowing Taliban forces to continue using their services.
