Ron DeSantis Confirms $750,000 Grant

(UnitedReader.com) – Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has made it his goal to help Floridians out as much as possible as the United States recovers from the pandemic. It’s become a major part of his platform to create more employment opportunities for his constituents. He’s done pretty well so far, especially with the announcement of a new grant and what it will fund.

Flanked by Dane Eagle, Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Secretary, Governor DeSantis recently spoke in Vero Beach, FL at CJ Canon’s restaurant. DeSantis discussed several local and federal issues such as inflation, Russia, election integrity and education. He went on to announce a number of grant recipients. He revealed one of the recipients, Fellsmere, would be receiving $750,000.

Fellsmere City Manager Mark Mathes asserted the money would fund about 30% of a $2.5 million project to expand the sewer system of the industrial complex in the 1,000-acre Headwaters Commerce Park. Mathes noted that once the project is finished, it will allow the two businesses to expand from 30 employees to around 100, which he called impressive for a city with a population of 5,000. The city manager explained that without the sewer’s expansion, the businesses wouldn’t have hung on for much longer, adding that they’ll be able to thrive now, leading to more development and more jobs.

Eagle administered the grant through the Rural Infrastructure Fund, with the intention of creating jobs while strengthening and diversifying rural communities. Improvements like this one are exactly what DeSantis wants to see in the Sunshine State.
