(UnitedReader.com) – The pandemic continues to weigh heavily on Americans, many of whom are struggling to stay afloat. This profoundly negative effect is causing an increase in mental health struggles, such as anxiety, depression, and even suicide. Could that be what led to the recent death of a well-known transit CEO?
CEO for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Jeffery Parker passed away suddenly on January 14 in a shocking local incident. While authorities have yet to release details surrounding Parker’s death, they believe the 56-year-old took his own life by stepping in front of a train in Dekalb County.

MARTA Chairwoman Rita Scott expressed her devastation over Parker’s death shortly after news of the incident first broke. Scott claimed the authority would miss the 56-year-old and that the Atlanta metro region should thank him for transforming transportation in the area. She also said that everyone at MARTA valued Parker’s leadership, calling him an outstanding leader.
Parker helped the authority weather the storm of the pandemic and its secondary effects. He served as MARTA’s leader for almost four years, overseeing dual expansions throughout Atlanta and Clayton County and paving the way for 10 years of sales tax extensions.
Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA) also commented on the loss, speaking of Parker’s glowing career and many accomplishments. He called the man’s tenure remarkable and offered the late CEO’s family condolences and prayers.
